SEWER MAINTENANCE WORKER/SEWER OPERATOR
The Bordentown Sewerage Authority is hiring a Sewer Maintenance Worker/Operator:
Bordentown Sewerage Authority seeks full-time Sewer Maintenance Worker position. High school diploma and mechanical ability required. Must possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey. Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) CDL Class B a plus or must obtain within six months of hire. Position requires some weekend, holiday, and on-call work. Under supervision must perform varied types of manual and unskilled laboring work, property maintenance, grass cutting and cleanup. Must be able to respond on-site within thirty minutes to emergency calls after hours. Sewer Maintenance Worker starting wage is $18.00 per hour. Starting wage for NJDEP licensed Sewer Operator will be based on applicant’s resume, training, and experience. DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
Must perform varied types of manual and skilled maintenance work in connection with the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant and collection system. Unskilled laboring work, such as property maintenance, grass cutting, and cleanup. under the direct supervision of the Operations Supervisor. Performs duties which may be carried out independently but which are subject to check upon completion for satisfactory performance. Frequent physical effort demanded in working in cramped positions while performing duties under varying weather conditions. Frequent contact with customers to resolve complaints about sewer service and filling of appropriate reports. Check and record daily pump station conditions, operation of the belt filter press, pumps, tanks, building and grounds maintenance. Duties also include operation of chemical feed systems, record keeping, and any other duties associated with plant operations.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Install and/or repair sewer mains and service lines. Rods and cleans sewer lines. Checks operation at pumping stations. Adds required chemicals to sewer system. Assists in the maintenance of pumping stations, collection lines and treatment plant. Answers call outs from customers to resolve blockage problems. Checks pump station operations.
Performs related work as required.
Requires minimum of high school diploma or equivalent. On-the-job training from date of employment. Completion of an operator training course highly desirable. Previous experience as laborer or equipment operator in wastewater treatment plant also desirable.
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is necessary for operation of sewer cleaning machine and roll off truck.
All sewer system alarms and calls outside of normal business hours must be responded to within thirty minutes.
Any combination of education or experience which provides the following knowledges, abilities and skills:
– Knowledge of methods used in installing and maintaining sewer systems.
– Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
– Ability to perform physical tasks under varying weather conditions.
– Ability to complete written reports, which are informative, legible and accurate.
– Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required for sewer cleaning machine and roll off truck.
Normal operations involve climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, talking, hearing, visual acuity, depth perception, and color vision.
Both inside and outside. Exposed to weather, fumes, odors, and dust.
